چکیده
Abstract A robust and efficient algorithm for the identification of algebraic surface patches from noisy data is detailed here. The aim is to reconstruct the B-rep of solids made of engineering forms constructs. There is no apriori knowledge on the number of patches. Algebraic surfaces are embedded on hyperplanes in , where is the number of points sufficient to determine an algebraic surface. A probabilistic algorithm and graph theory are used to cluster the patches. Non trivial examples of quadric surface patches are given.

Surface Reconstruction from Unorganized Point Data with Quadrics
We present a reverse engineering method for constructing a surface approximation scheme whose input is a set of unorganized noisy points in space and whose output is a set of quadric patches. The local surface properties, necessary for the subsequent segmentation, are estimated directly from the data using a simple and efficient data structure the neighborhood graph. Our segmentation scheme, ba...

1 Introduction 2 Interpolation and least-squares approximation provide! efficient ways of generating Ck.continuous meshes of surface patches, necessary for the consLrucLion of accurate computer geometric models of solid physical objects [see for e.g. [8.7]. Two surfaces J(:I;, Y,z) = 0 and g(x, y, z) = 0 meet with Ck-continuity along a curve C if and only if there exists functions a:(x, Y, z) a...

The article presents issues connected with coordinate measurements of complex-shape surfaces. These measurements are presented on the example of carrying out the reverse engineering process of objects described with the use of free surface patches. The introduction to the article comprises a presentation of the B-spline method. This method has been applied to constructing geometric models of th...
متن کاملAutomatic Reconstruction of 3D CAD Models from Digital Scans
We present an approach for the reconstruction and approximation of 3D CAD models from an unorganized collection of points. Applications include rapid reverse engineering of existing objects for use in a synthetic computer environment, including computer aided design and manufacturing. Our reconstruction approach is exible enough to permit interpolation of both smooth surfaces and sharp features...
متن کاملCurvature Variation as Measure of Shape Information
In this thesis, we present the Curvature Variation Measure (CVM) as our informational approach to shape description. We base our algorithm on shape curvature, and extract shape information as the entropic measure of the curvature. We present definitions to estimate curvature for both discrete 2D curves and 3D surfaces and then formulate our theory of shape information from these definitions. Wi...
